Owning a DSLR camera is the best toy a girl could ever own. But sometimes a girl’s gotta match a bag to her outfit and unfortunately most camera bags look like, well, camera bags. So how do we lug our precious camera around while still keeping in style?
I’ve gotten the help of my good friend Sherrie, an investment banker who struts in executive suits during the day and in fun and colorful dresses during the weekend out with friends. Here’s Sherrie’s top pick of handbags to use to keep her DSLR camera while looking fabulous.
Quick notes:
What’s a DSLR camera? It’s a Single Lens Reflex digital camera that uses a mechanical mirror system and pentaprism to direct light from the lens to an optical viewfinder on the back of the camera (via wikipedia), or in lay(wo)man terms, it’s a big camera.
THE KELLY MOORE BAG by Kelly Moore

The Kelly Moore Bag in Rich Fuchsia via kellymoorebag.com
I personally love this bag because from the outside, it doesn’t look ANYTHING like a camera bag. It makes for an awesome pairing with your power suit (check out Cranberry Croc!) when you want to meet up with your girlfriends after work for a girl’s night out in town.
The Kelly Moore Bag comes with 3 removable Velcro dividers with a total of 4 sections inside. It can easily carry 1 camera body, 1 flash, 2-4 lenses (depending on if you stack them), and various other accessories (batteries, grips, etc).
The Kelly Moore Bag is available in 5 different colors  and will set you back USD199. This is definitely in my wish list!

OVERSIZED ALEXA by Mulberry

Oversized Alexa via mulberry.com
If I had to choose a handbag/ camera bag to bring along on my travels, the Mulberry Oversized Alexa would be it. Roomy enough to carry my camera body, a good walkabout lens for some awesome street photography, and an interior zip pocket to store my important documents (wallet/ passport, money, traveler’s cheques, etc), this is the perfect bag.
Named after and inspired by modern British style icon, the Alexa is a cross between Mulberry’s iconic Bayswater and the men’s briefcase. I don’t think it is meant to be a camera bag (more of a large messenger), but can be if paired with the right padding (bought separately of course), it is one of those bags that is formal and casual, structured and relaxed and effortlessly chic.
The oversized Alexa will set you back a whopping £795 and is available here.
5 MILLION DOLLAR HOME by Crumpler

5 Million Dollar Home via crumpler.com
My first proper camera bag and one of my favorites. It’s my standard bag when I go on photo outings with my friends, as it is small and comfortable enough to fit in my camera body, two lenses (usually my 50mm f/1.4 and maybe my 17-50mm f/2.8), and some other accessories – extra batteries, battery grip, etc. . It also comes with 2 configurable dividers and has a plastic stiffening layer base.
It’s a fun bag to bring out on casual photo outings and very comfortably sized too! Just make sure when you buy the bag that there is padding on the shoulder strap (I requested for one) as it makes slinging it so much more comfortable, especially when you’ll be lugging it around the whole day.
One of the more popular camera bags from Crumpler, the 5 Million Dollar Home is very affordable (for the level of comfort and convenience) at USD82 and comes in various colors available here
SHOOTSAC by Jessica Claire

I fell in love with the Shootsac when one of my good friend, wedding photographer extraordinaire, Anna-Rina, brought it along on one of our photo outings. The Shootsac is amazingly light (approx. 70 oz) and is built to conform with your body and to move with you. Unlike the traditional bulky camera bags, the Shootsac is designed to be worn while you shoot, providing quick and easy access to your lenses, flashes and other shooting necessities.
The Shootsac comes with an interchangeable neoprene cover, which comes with a microsuede lens cleaning cloth to make swapping lenses on the go even more convenient. Not only that, it doesn’t hurt that the covers are gorgeous too!
What more can you ask for in a camera bag? Slim, functional AND gorgeous! The Shootsac goes for USD189, and comes with a free shoulder pad. Check out the whole Shootsac range here, available for purchase here
